President Bhandari offers Puja to Chhathi Mai
President Bidya Devi Bhandari has worshipped Chhathi Mai by reaching the Chhath Puja site built on the bank of Bagmati River near Guheshwori Temple in Pashupatinath Temple area in Kathmandu this evening.
President Bhandari, on the occasion of Chhath festival today, offered prayers and made offerings to the setting sun.
There has been a tradition for some years that the Head of the State visits the Chhath Puja site either in Guheshwori Temple area, Kamal Pokhari or Rani Pokhari to worship Chhathi Mai and make offerings to the Sun God on the Chhath festival.
Nepal sends diplomatic note to India over Mahara’s death in Darchula
The government of Nepal has sent a diplomatic note to India in relation to the death of Pawan Mahara of Darchula who was killed due to a stone off-shoot resulting from detonation on the Indian side during road construction.
During the construction of the Tawaghat-Lipulek road, a stone off-shoot resulting from stone detonation hit Mahara, 9, of Dumling, Byas Rural Municipality-2, Darchula, resulting in his death later.
After his death, the Home Ministry wrote a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on Saturday asking the latter to take initiatives for compensation and relief.
Following the Home Ministry’s letter, MoFA sent a diplomatic note to India on Sunday.
Nepal expresses grief over loss of lives in Seoul stampede
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed grief over the loss of many lives in Seoul, the capital of Republic of Korea, on Saturday.
“I’m deeply grieved by the news of stampede and loss of many precious lives at Halloween celebration in Seoul. We extend heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the Government and people of ROK and the bereaved families and wish for a speedy recovery of the injured,” PM Deuba said in the micro blogging site Twitter.
Wire service reports said at least 151 people died in a crush as huge Halloween crowds surged into a narrow street in Seoul. At least another 82 were injured in the incident in the Itaewon nightlife area which was holding its first unmasked Halloween celebrations since COVID-19.
Indian construction company gives Rs 16 lakhs to victim’s relatives in Darchula
The Indian construction company Garg and Garg Co. has handed over Rs 16 lakhs (IRS 10 lakhs) as compensation to the relatives of the victim in the incident of death of 12-year-old Pawan Mahara of Byas-2, Darchula.
Mahara was struck dead when a stone coming from the construction site hit him on Saturday.
According to police, Garg & Garg Company, which is constructing the Tawaghat-Lipulek road, has provided Nepalese rupees 1.6 million as compensation to the victim’s family after a discussion was held at the Sub Divisional Magistrate Office office in Dharchula on Saturday in the presence of the Nepal government’s representatives.
Darchula Chief Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Tarkaraj Pandey confirmed that Garg & Garg Company has provided Rs. 1.6 million to the victim’s family.
PM Deuba extends condolences to Palpa bus accident victims’ relatives
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed his grief over death of people in the Palpa bus accident.
“I am saddened by the accident,” said the PM in a tweet today. He also offered his condolences to the deceased and the bereaved families while directing the authorities to manage treatment for the injured people.
Five people were killed and as many as 30 others injured when a bus heading to Manakamana in Gorkha district from Palpa met with an accident at Hungi of Rambha Rural Municipality in Palpa today morning.
Be assured, Prachanda is the next Prime Minister: Dr. Bhattarai
Chairperson of Nepal Samajwadi Party, Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has asserted that Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda will become the Prime Minister after the November 20 election.
He said this while campaigning in favor of Prachanda in Gorkha.
Dr. Bhattarai said that Prachanda will lead the new government that will be formed after the elections.
“Do not take it otherwise, Prachanda will be the next Prime Minister,” he said.
Earthquake felt in Sudurpaschim Province
An earthquake has been felt in the hilly districts of Sudur Paschim Province.
The earthquake of 4.6 magnitudes occurred at 9:26 am this morning and was felt in Baitadi, Bajhang, Doti and other districts.
According to Rajesh Sharma, Technical Assistant of Seismology Center Surkhet, the epicenter of the earthquake was at Lekhgaon in Bajhang.
Dr Karki doubts EC’s impartiality, intention
Dr Toshima Karki, candidate of Rastriya Swatantra Party from constituency-3 of Lalitpur, has raised question over the intention of the Election Commission (EC) for scrapping her candidacy.
The EC had on Saturday scrapped Karki’s candidacy saying that she was found holding the public post by being elected a member of the Nepal Medical Council.
Taking to social media, Dr. Karki said, “I doubt that it is a fair decision on the part of the Election Commission based on the complaint after the deadline for the same expired.”
She said, “The complaint was made after the deadline, however, I had filed my nomination application long before.”
Dr Karki has raised serious suspicion about the impartiality of the Election Commission.
Karki has said she would move the court against the EC’s decision.
If KP Oli had morals, he would resign as MP: Ghanshyam Bhusal
Ghanshyam Bhusal, who abandoned CPN-UML and became an independent candidate from Rupandehi-1, commented that KP Oli has no morals.
Speaking at a program held in Tilottama, Rupandehi on Sunday, he said that if there was morality, after the restoration of the parliament, which he (Oli) dissolved himself, he (Oli) should have resigned not only from the Prime Minister but also from the post of parliamentarian.
He also insisted that they had to protest against Oli’s denial of the Constitution which guaranteed people’s rights.
