Govt committed to hold HoR and State Assembly elections: PM Deuba

Prime Minister (PM) Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the government is committed to holding the elections to the House of Representatives and the state assemblies on time.

Speaking at a program in the capital on Thursday, Prime Minister Deuba claimed that the recently concluded local elections were held in a fair and fearless manner.

He also called on all parties to work with the highest interest of the nation at the center.

EC urges govt to manage e-voting machine for upcoming elections

 The Election Commission (EC) has urged the government to make necessary arrangements for the use of electronic voting machine in the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) and Province Assembly (PA) elections.

According to the EC, it wrote to the Council of Ministers, the Nepal Government through the Home Minister, on Thursday, seeking its role to make arrangements for electronic voting.

The urge follows the report of a committee formed to study the possibility of the use of voting machine and its management in the election.

Four ambassadors take oath before President

The newly appointed ambassadors to various countries have taken oath of office and secrecy before President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Thursday.

They were sworn in at a special ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

The ambassadors sworn in include Dr Naresh Bikram Dhakal (Qatar), Bishnupukar Shrestha (China), Kailash Raj Pokharel (Australia) and Kanta Rijal (Israel).

Indian Ambassador to Nepal presents letter of credence to President Bhandari

Ambassador of India to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, presented his letter of credence to President Bidya Devi Bhandari at a special ceremony held at the President’s Office, Sheetal Niwas, on Thursday.

Ambassador Srivastava also paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba after presenting his credentials.

USD makes an all time high against Nepali rupees; 1$ equals Rs 126.05

The value of the United States Dollar (USD) has made a new contemporary record in Nepal with one USD trading for Nepali Rs 126.05 on Thursday.

The Central Bank, Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), fixed the buying rate for one USD at Rs 126.05 and the selling rate at Rs 126.65 today.

Likewise, the value of USD to Nepali rupees was 125.74 (Buy) and 126.34 (Sell) on Wednesday.

The USD has been gaining strength against Nepali rupees of late as the latter continues to fall.

CoAS Sharma visits US National Defense University in Washington

A delegation led by Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Prabhuram Sharma visited the National Defense University (NDU) in Washington on Wednesday.

On the occasion, General Sharma had a meeting with Commandant Brigadier General Jeff Hurlbert of National War College (NWC).

He also sought information from officials at the Near East South Asia Center for Strategic Studies on a variety of aspects, including education, activities, and training.

Adding to yesterday’s momentum, NEPSE rises by 74.93 points on Thursday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index has risen by a whopping 74.93 points on Thursday, securing a gain of 3.82%.

Adding to the momentum of a gain of 41.39 points on Wednesday, today’s significant increase took the NEPSE index to 2,037.64 points.

The index opened at 1966.85 points, which is also the intraday lowest, and ultimately closed at intraday day high of 2,037.64 points.

The total turnover amount also swelled to Rs 2.45 billion today. The turnover the previous day was Rs. 1.431 billion.

PM Deuba congratulates newly elected ANFA leadership

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has congratulated and offered best wishes to the newly-elected leadership of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA).

He offered his congratulations amid a function here today at his official residence in Baluwatar.

On the occasion, the PM pledged to always provide assistance for the development of football. Pankaj Bikram Nembang was recently elected the ANFA President through its election on June 20.
