Federal and provincial state elections by mid-December: EC

KATHMANDU: Chief Election Commissioner, Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, has said that the Commission is preparing to hold the upcoming federal and provincial elections by mid-December.

Speaking at a program in Kathmandu on Thursday, Chief Commissioner Thapaliya said that it was the responsibility of the Commission to hold the election.

“However, we are yet to take a final decision,” he said.

Thapaliya, meanwhile, said that the counting of votes of the recently-held local-level elections had to be cordoned off due to compulsion and security reasons.

“We know it’s not fair in a democracy but we cordoned off the counting areas due to security reasons,” he clarified.

Chief Commissioner Thapaliya further clarified that the facilities provided to the employees in the local level elections were based on their needs and requirements.
