Unified Socialist prefers incumbent coalition for govt

Optimistic to go beyond threshold

KATHMANDU: Madhav Kumar Nepal-led CPN-Unified Socialist has decided to go for the incumbent coalition to form a new government.

The participants of the party’s Secretariat meeting held in Aloknagar- Kathmandu, on Tuesday, concluded that the incumbent five-party alliance would get the majority to form the government at federal and province level.

In the twin elections of the House of Representatives and the Provincial Assembly held on November 20, the coalition has reached a majority.

However, CPN-UML has also taken initiations to form a government.

Analyzing the current situation for a government with the UML, the Unified Socialist party has said that the possibility of a five-party coalition is strong.

Chairman Nepal had offered a briefing about this at the secretariat meeting held to review the election.

The Unified Socialist’s analysis is that the party will cross the threshold by securing three percent of votes towards proportional election.

The Unified Socialist has won 10 constituencies under first-past-the-post seats for the House of Representatives member. On the proportional side, the party has obtained 277 thousand votes out of 9.8 million votes counted so far.

Provided it crosses the threshold, the Unified Socialist will get 3 MPs proportionally.

The Unified Socialist has decided to seek detailed reports from the district and province committees for the further review of the election.
