76 parties apply under PR system for November 20 elections



KATHMANDU: As many as 33 political parties registered their parties at the Election Commission (EC) towards the Proportional Representatives (PR) system for the November 20 elections to the House of Representatives and State Assembly on Sunday — the last day of the registration.

The deadline for submitting applications for registering nominations of political parties for the PR system for the elections ended on Sunday.

EC Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma said that 76 parties have submitted 68 petitions to the House of Representatives on the first, second, third and last day till Sunday.

According to the EC, so far 63 parties in Province 1, 67 parties in Madhesh Pradesh, 66 in Bagmati Pradesh, 60 in Gandaki Pradesh, 62 in Lumbini Pradesh, 49 in Karnali Pradesh, and 57 parties in Sudurpaschim Pradesh have submitted petitions for the PR system of election.

The 3-day deadline for filing nominations for PR expired on Sunday evening.

According to the EC, the political parties who have registered their nominations for the proportional election system will be allowed to submit the closed list on September 18 and 19.
