KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said the expansion of habitat and increase in number of preys as food-chain should be considered to reduce the human-wildlife conflict in the wake of increasing number of tigers in Nepal.

The stakeholders concerned should pay attention to the alternative measure for livelihood of people living in the buffer zone along with awareness.

In a message of best wishes on the occasion of the International Tiger Day, 2079 today, President Bhandari wished the Day inspired all to protect the beautiful animal, tiger.

July 29 is observed as the International Tiger Day every year.

Nepal had vowed to double its tiger population in the International Tiger Day held in Saint Petersburg, Russia a decade back.

Nepal became successful to nearly meet the target reaching tiger population at 235 in 2018.

With this, Nepal has been internationally applauded. President Bhandari has expressed happiness over Nepal’s identity in the world as a successful country to conserve the special wild animal, tiger.

The national parks and wildlife reserves across the country have provided safe sanctuary to this animal.
