Rs 1.4 billion for transitional justice



KATHMANDU: The government has allocated Rs 1.40 billion for transitional justice.

Presenting the budget for the fiscal year 2022/23 in the Federal Parliament, Finance Minister Janardan Sharma informed that Rs 1.40 billion has been allocated for the transitional justice for the fiscal year 2079/07.

He also added that the government is committed to complete the remaining work of the peace process by amending the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act through policy and program as per the decision of the apex court.

The commission, set up to investigate human rights violations in the 10-year-old armed conflict, has been conducting the first phase of investigation in recent days.

The victims have been lodging complaints with the Truth and Reconciliation and Disappearance Commission. While the complaints are being investigated, the victims have been protesting. They have been protesting saying that the laws could not be amended.

The government is holding discussions with the victims saying that the peace process will be completed this year. The Law Commission is working for this.
