Government announces to bring 1 million more tourists next year

Allocates Rs 9.38 billion for tourism sector



KATHMANDU: The government has allocated budget to attract one million more tourists next year.

Presenting the budget for the fiscal year 2022/23 in the Federal Parliament on Sunday Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has said that Rs 9.38 billion has been allocated for the overall tourism sector in the fiscal year 2022/23 to attract one million more tourists.

During the budget speech on Sunday, he said that a campaign would be launched to attract the new generation to visit Nepal and the main land of various ethnic communities would be developed as a special tourist destination.

Minister Sharma also said that Rs. 900 million has been allocated for bringing various programs to attract the private sector in the tourism industry and construction of hill stations in the Himalayan region for adventure tourism.

He said that government would promote the footpath construction and establishment of communication facilities to facilitate the tourists going for mountaineering.

The Finance Minister announced that one-year’s renewal fee waiver for the tourism industry affected by the coronavirus epidemic. He also said that Rs 330 million has been allocated for the promotion and development of the Great Himalayan Trail.

According to Minister Sharma budget has been allocated for the establishment of a museum in the world-famous Everest region, a museum in the Himalayas and a Newa Museum in Kathmandu for adventure tourism.

He also revealed that government has given priority to infrastructure development, drinking water and sewerage in the tourism sector.
