President Bhandari condones 818 jailbirds on Republic Day



KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has granted amnesty to 818 jailbirds from various prisons across the country on the occasion of Republic Day, 2079 BS.

President Bhandari exempted the remaining jail term of 818 prisoners including Khadga Shreng Limbu and Nar Bahadur Sawa in accordance with Article 276 of the Constitution of Nepal, Criminal Offense (Punishment Determination and Implementation) Act-2074 BS, Supreme Court order.

The amnesty was given to 818 jailbirds at the recommendation of a Cabinet meeting held on May 24 that would be effective from May 29.

Similarly, President Bhandari at the recommendation of Cabinet meeting held on May 27 exempted the prison term of 16 prisoners including Umakanta Parajuli as per the court verdict delivered at different times.
