23 including 3 mayoral candidates withdraw candidacies in Biratnagar Metropolis



KATHMANDU: A total of 23 candidates including three candidates of mayor and two that of deputy mayor have withdrawn their nominations in Biratnagar Metropolitan City by 5 pm today.

According to the Office of the Chief Returning Officer, the post of mayor and deputy mayor in Biratnagar Metropolis had received 16 candidacies each for the May 13 local level lections.

Mayoral candidate from Rastriya Janamorcha Nepal Tanka Prasad Gautam, Mahesh Niraula from Nepal Pariwar Dal and Independent Candidate from CPN (Maoist Center) Kemuna Odari have withdrawn their candidacies.

Similarly, Deepa Pokharel from Nepal Pariwar Dal and Independent candidate Uddhab Prasad Koirala have withdrawn their candidacies, informed Hem Bahadur Budhathoki, the Information Officer of the Office of the Chief Returning Officer. Similarly, five candidates among those who had filed their nominations for the post of ward chairpersons, have withdrawn their candidacies.

The other 13 who withdrew their candidacies were the candidates for ward members, women members and Dalit women members.

As many as 172 candidates had filed their candidacies for the post of 19 wards in Biratnagar Metropolitan City.

The Office of the Chief Returning Officer is making preparations to publish the final name list after deciding on those who withdrew their candidacies today itself.

The Election Commission (EC) has said it will provide election symbols to those whose names feature in the final name list on Saturday.
