Nepal, US mark 75 years of diplomatic relations

KATHMANDU: United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said Nepal has seen incredible changes in its governance, economic development, and international engagements.

Tweeting on the occasion of 75 years of establishment of bilateral ties between Nepal and United States, Secretary Blinken said the US was proud of accomplishments as partners, and look forward to decades of friendship.

“Today we mark 75 years of U.S.-Nepal diplomatic relations … We are proud of our accomplishments as partners, and look forward to many more decades of friendship. #USNepal75,” the tweet read.

Nepal and the US established the diplomatic relations between them on April 25, 1947. The US is the second country, only after the UK, with which Nepal established diplomatic relations.

Nepal established its Embassy in Washington D.C. on February 3, 1958. On August 6, 1959, American Embassy in Kathmandu was opened. A number of Nepal’s honorary consuls have been appointed in various US cities.

The US Embassy in Kathmandu is also organizing various programs here to mark 75 years of Nepal-US friendship.
