Minister Khand enquires CDOs about disaster preparedness

KATHMANDU: Minister for Home Affairs Bal Krishna Khand on Saturday enquired chief district officers (CDOs) of 20 districts to take stock of preparedness on part of the authorities concerned to protect vulnerable people from cold wave and snowfall in those places.

Cold wave in Terai and snowfall in mountainous regions are taking a toll on the lives and livelihood of many impoverished and vulnerable community people. The government had decided to provide warm clothes and firewood to save the vulnerable from winter blues, said minister’s press coordinator Madhusudan Bhattarai.

Ringing up the CDOs, Minister Khand instructed them to arrange warm clothes and firewood for the targeted communities. The Minister also enquired CDOs about the law and order situation in their respective districts, Manang, Dadeldhura, Gorkha, Taplejung, Bajhang, Solukhumbu, Mugu, Khotang, Okhaldhunga, Sunsari, Udayapur and Panchthar among others, informed Bhattarai.

He also gleaned information on vaccination drive against COVID-19 in their districts, shared Bhattarai. The Minister also enquired about the local government’s response to COVID-19 prevention, control and cure of the infected ones. He also expressed concern over the Nepali returnee migrant workers and possible transmission of COVID-19.
