One dead in elephant attack



KATHMANDU: One person died in an elephant attack in Bara district on Thursday.

According to DSP Yubaraj Timlisina of Area Police Office, Simara, the wild tusker attacked Sheikh Rokaida Khatun, 51, of Amlekhgunj in Jitpur Simara-21. “The elephant attacked her while she was herding goats in a nearby forest. She was rushed to hospital after the attack but succumbed to injuries,” according to Area Police Office, Simara.

Sheikh was herding goats in a forest of Parsa National Park behind the Nepal Oil Corporation’s depot.

Local people have been herding cattle in the forest for a long time.
