American mountaineer Nelson found dead in Manaslu

KATHMANDU: American mountaineer Hilary Nelson, 49, has been found dead in Gorkha’s Mt. Manaslu in Nepal.

She climbed the world’s 8th highest peak, Mt. Manaslu, last Monday with her friend.

She fell into a ravine and disappeared while returning from the mountain peak.

She fell into a deep sinkhole in the mountain, sources said.

Nelson had gone for the climb through Shangrila Nepal Trek, a trekking company.

Athlete and mountaineer Nelson along with her husband Jim Morrison climbed the peak on Monday.

According to the climbers, she crashed 15 minutes after reaching the summit and fell into a 2,000-foot gap in the snow, known as a ‘revue’.

Jeevan Ghimire of Shangrila Nepal Trek said that Nelson’s body was found on Wednesday morning.

Nelson has been climbing mountains for two decades. She had climbed 40 peaks in 16 different countries.
