Child saved by his mother from a leopard recovering

CHITWAN: The health condition of Sulabh Pariyar, a child who was seriously injured in a leopard attack, is improving. Three-year-old Sulabh, a resident of Bandipur rural municipality-1 of Tanahun, was attacked by a leopard on August 24 and seriously injured.

His mother Lakshmi Pariyar saved him from the clutches of the leopard. Seriously injured in the attack, Sulabh was brought to Chitwan Medical College after receiving first aid at a local health facility.

The child’s life was saved because a surgery was carried out immediately at the college, said Journalist Subas Pandit, who is coordinating the treatment of Sulabh. Director of the hospital, Dr Dayaram Lamsal said that the child’s condition is improving after the successful surgery.

The child had suffered serious neck injury. Fortunately, the trachea and the main blood vessels were not damaged in the attack. The child’s father, Subas Pariyar, expressed happiness that the operation was successful.

According to him, last Wednesday Sulabh was taken away by a leopard while he was playing in the courtyard of his house. The leopard left the child and escaped after the family members, including his mother, raised an alarm and ran after the wild animal.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Pratap Devkota, said the hospital performed the child’s surgery free of charge. Only the medicine and other associated costs have been charged. The child has been moved from the intensive care unit to a general ward.
