14,402 women elected in local level elections across country



KATHMANDU: A total of 14,402 women have been elected in the May 13 local level elections as per the results made public so far.

It is 40.89 percent based on this figure. There were 55,699 women candidates in the election. There are 35,221 posts in 753 local levels.

According to the results unveiled by the Election Commission as of Saturday morning, women have been elected as the chief and deputy chief of the three municipalities.

Among them, Phulwati Rajbanshi and Pujan Neupane Kunwar have been elected as the Gauriganj rural municipality chief and deputy chief respectively.

Rajbanshi had become a candidate from Nepali Congress and Neupane from CPN-UML.

Women have been elected as both the chief and deputy chief of Bhairavi rural municipality of Dailekh. Rita Shahi has been elected as the chief and Devi Bhandari as the deputy chief of the municipality. Both were nominated by the Nepali Congress.

Women have been elected to both the posts of Chief and Deputy Chief of Lamki-Chuha municipality of Kailali.

Sushila Shahi has been elected as the chief of the municipality and Juna Chaudhary as the deputy chief. The chief was nominated by the Nepali Congress and the deputy chief by the UML.

Women elected on provincial basis

Out of 8,196 candidates in State 1, 2,455 women have been elected. Out of 15,780 candidates in Madhes Pradesh, 2,770 were elected. Accordingly, out of 8,344 women candidates in Bagmati Pradesh, 2,347 were elected.

In Gandaki, out of 4,649 women candidates, 1,622 were elected. Accordingly, out of 8,767 women candidates in Lumbini, 2,124 were elected.

According to the commission, out of 4,878 women candidates in Karnali, 1,524 were elected. Similarly, 1,560 out of 5,085 candidates were elected in Sudurpaschim Pradesh.
