Minister Khand urges independent mayor candidate in Bharatpur to withdraw candidacy

CHITWAN: Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand met with Nepali Congress (NC) leader Jagannath Poudel, who has filed his independent candidacy for the post of mayor from the Bharatpur Metropolis for upcoming local election, on Thursday.

During the meeting, the Minister urged Poudel and his team to withdraw the candidacy and help implement the decision reached among five ruling political parties for having an electoral alliance in view of local poll slated for May 13.

“The electoral alliance was forged among the government coalition partners in a special situation and we have kindly urged Poudel for his contribution to its enforcement,” the Minister said while talking to media persons after the meeting.

On the occasion, the NC lawmaker took time to say that the party was always committed to democracy.

Prior to the meeting with Poudel, the Minister had met with Mina Kharel, who proposed Poudel’s candidacy and Krishna Lal Sapkota who seconded it.

While talking to media following the meeting with Minister Khand, independent candidate Poudel shared that he apprised the Minister that it seemed not possible for him to move back from the race.

It may be noted that the NC has already decided to support the CPN-Maoist Center in the election of mayor in Bharatpur.

Minister of State Umesh Shrestha, NC Chitwan President Rajeshwor Khanal and other local leaders accompanied Minister Khand during the meeting.
