NC President Deuba urges rebel candidates to withdraw candidacy

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has urged NC rebel leaders filing candidacy against party candidates to withdraw their candidacy.

Issuing a statement on Thursday, NC President Deuba asked them to withdraw candidacy by Friday evening and help the party official candidates as well as candidates from the ruling coalition to get elected.

Several NC leaders have filed rebel candidacy in many districts, including Chitwan.

Likewise, it should be noted that party leader Shekhar Koirala has also urged the rebel candidates to support the party’s official candidates.

He has also asked those who have left NC to come back to the party.

He has also underlined the need of making democratic candidates and those standing for changes victorious in the upcoming local elections and strengthening the foundation of democracy right from the local level.

Deuba also spoke the need of defeating anti-constitutional and anti-democratic forces by the election and further consolidating the base of democracy.

As the leader insists, it is the high time to take significant efforts for promoting the federal democratic republic system in the country, for protecting the Constitution and for safeguarding the democracy by conquering efforts to weaken democracy and the Constitution.

Through the appeal, the NC President said the party mechanism from the province to local levels have been instructed to implement the decision of government coalition partners to forge an electoral alliance for the May 13 local elections.

It may be noted that five ruling parties NC, CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal and Rastriya Janamorcha have already agreed to have an electoral alliance as per the local need in the election.
