Candidacies of those blacklisted to be scrapped

KATHMANDU: Returning officers across the country have warned that they will turn down the candidacies filed by those whose names still feature in the closed list of the proportional representation by today afternoon.

The Election Commission (EC) has also directed the election officers across the country to accept the candidacies of those who remove their names from the closed list by Thursday afternoon.

Similarly, the candidacies filed by those who have been blacklisted will be rejected as per the election law.

Those who have not cleared the bank loan and those punished by law for various causes have been blacklisted.

The EC, earlier, had asked the candidates to remove their names from the closed list of proportional representation.

The EC had prepared a list of 40,000 individuals blacklisted by the government for their involvement in various crimes.

The Commission had copied this list on a pen drive and shared it among the election officers presuming that the internment may not be available in the remote parts of the country.
