EC to publish name-list of candidates today



KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) is publishing the name-list of candidates today after going through the nomination papers and the complaints lodged.

The nominations had been filed on April 24 and 25.

The deadline for examining the nomination papers complaints lodged is expiring today.

Similarly, the EC has said that the candidacies of 15 people whose names had featured in the closed list under the proportional representation have been scrapped. Candidates can withdraw their candidacies by April 29 and the final list will be published on Friday itself.

The EC has said that the election symbols will be provided to the candidates on Saturday (April 30).

A total of 152,465 candidates have filed their nominations for May 13 local level election for various 35,221 posts in 753 local units.

According to the EC, 3,496 candidates have filed their candidacies for mayoral posts, 2,157 for deputy mayoral posts. Similarly, 3,387 candidates have filed their candidacies for the posts of chairpersons, and 2,401 have filed candidacies for the post of deputy chairpersons.

Likewise, 35,284 people have applied for ward chairpersons, 26,468 have registered candidacies for women ward members, 23,859 have filed candidacies for Dalit women ward members and 55,491 have filed candidacies for the post of ward members, according to the EC.

The local level election is being held on May 13.
