EC decides to provide 73 small parties their own election symbols



KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has decided to provide 73 fringe political parties their own election symbol for the forth coming local election purpose.

According to EC spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel, the meeting of the EC officials held on Sunday decided to give  the small parties the election symbols they had got in the previous election.

For the local level election, 79 parties have registered their name at EC.

According to the Political Parties Act, only nationally recognized parties can get their own election symbol.

Even smaller parties, with the exception of national ones, demanded that they get their own election symbol.

Earlier, considering the political parties’ demand for their own symbols, the commission had collected details of political parties in each district.
