1.81 billion arrears to clear, CAAN struggling in financial crisis



KATHMANDU: While still struggling in financial crisis, Civil Aviation Authority Nepal (CAAN) is still to collect the arrears more than RS 1.81 billion.

A sub-committee formed under International Relations Committee of the House of Representatives made the revelation that CAAN has a remarkable amount to make clear under arrears.

The International Relations Committee had formed a sub-committee under Nepali Congress lawmaker Dibyamani Raj Bhandari to identify the problems and solutions related to CAAN.

The sub-committee had a discussion with the officials including the acting Director General of CAAN Prem Nath Thakur.

The sub-committee’s conclusion of Wednesday has been made public on Friday.

The sub-committee has also urged the government to provide it (the sub-committee) the report of investigation committee formed under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation in this regard.

The Ministry had formed a committee to investigate on the irregularities relating to the  financial irregularities in the chartered flights made during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak and the rescue flights that followed.
