Manaslu Avalanche update: All injured rescued



GORKHA: All those injured in the avalanche that occurred at the Camp III of Manaslu Mountain on Monday morning have been rescued on Tuesday.

Of those 13 hit by the avalanche, 12 have been rescued alive and safely while the retrieval of the mortal remains of Anup Rai of Sankhuwasabha district remains a challenge owing to adverse weather, according to the District Police Office, Gorkha.

DSP Leela Raj Lamichhane shared that weather in the zone where the body of Rai lies began to deteriorate today as well. “It is difficult to retrieve the body as it is in a gorge from where the avalanche occurred. Since it is not possible to take out the body today, a helicopter will fly to the Base Camp tomorrow yet again for the same.”

According to DSP Lamichhane, of the avalanche survivors, four were rescued on Monday while the remaining eight were rescued today. The rescued ones are Kinu Pemba, 35, and Phurte Sherpa, 29, of Solukhumbu district.

Also rescued unscathed in yesterday’s disaster are Sukman Tamang, 27, Nima Sherpa, Nim Dorje Sherpa, 40, and Dawa Sherpa, 25, from Sankhuwasabha district.

Phurita Sherpa, 40, Lakpa Tamang, 37, and Jit Bahadur Sherpa, 44, of Dolakha district were also rescued, said DSP Lamichhane.

Among the rescued ones today, Nima Dorje’s condition is critical, said Lamichhane.

According to him,all the rescued ones were airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment.

The condition of the remaining three rescued ones was normal and they already returned to their work after they were rescued to the Base Camp of Manaslu Mountain, it was told.
