Health Ministry prepares for direct mobilization of Global Fund

KATHMANDU: The government has initiated work to directly mobilize the amount being spent under the Global Fund.

The Global Fund is a partnership designed to accelerate the end of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria as epidemics.

Newly appointed Minister of Health and Population Bhavani Khapung made a decision in this regard after assuming office on Monday.

Ministry Spokesperson Sangita Mishra said the proposal would now be tabled at the Council of Ministers.

Currently, Save the Children has been mobilizing funding of the Global Fund in Nepal.

Mihsra informed that as per the proposal, Global Fund’s amount would be mobilized under the Health Ministry from the new cycle starting 2024.

After assuming office, Minister Khapung also said since it was difficult to diagnose diseases in remote areas, health camps would be run in the villages to put an end to such situation.

He added priority will be given to the treatment of diseases like cancer, heart and kidney.
