MCC on Parliament’s agenda; UML likely to obstruct meeting

KATHMANDU: The US grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact has been included in Sunday’s agenda list of House of Representatives.

A meeting of the Business Advisory Committee decided to make MCC an agenda to table in today’s meeting.

According to Federal Parliament Secretariat spokesperson Rojnath Pandey, the MCC agreement that has been tabled in the parliament will be discussed today.

Meanwhile, the ruling coalition Maoist Center has agreed to ratify the MCC Compact with an interpretative declaration.

According to the party source, the decision has been made to “keep intact the existing ruling coalition” formed to safeguard the Constitution, democracy and nationality.

Meanwhile, the main opposition party CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has said that the ruling coalition’s decision to ratify the MCC Compact with interpretative declaration has exposed the government’s contradictory and double-standard attitude.

He said that his party will not participate in today’s Parliament proceedings if their demands were not met.

The main opposition party, UML, has been obstructing the parliamentary meetings alleging Speaker Agni Spakota for not expelling 14 lawmakers of the Unified Socialist party.
