KATHMANDU: One of the key coalition partners in the Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government, CPN-Maoist Center is holding its parliamentary party meeting to inform the lawmakers about the party’s decision to ratify US grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact from the parliament.

Earlier, Maoist Center’s Central Office Secretariat meeting held on Sunday morning at party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’s Khumaltar-based residence decided to ratify the MCC Compact with further clarification of the ambiguous clauses and conditions included in the compact.

According to a Maoist Center leader, Chairman Prachanda has convened the parliamentary party meeting to notify the lawmakers why the party chose parliamentary ratification of the MCC.

After that, Prachanda agreed to approve the MCC at a meeting of the ruling coalition in Baluwatar.

At the Maoist center, however, some leaders and lawmakers have expressed dissent.

“We have some differences of opinion, but we have no formal information about the party’s decision. A meeting of the parliamentary parties is being held now. We will discuss our opinions in the right forum” said a Maoist center’s lawmaker with dissenting voice.

The House of Representatives meeting on Sunday has an agenda to discuss the MCC agreement in principle. A meeting of the ruling coalition held this morning has already agreed to pass the MCC from the parliament on Sunday.
