Dashain festival begins, Ghatasthapana today
“Navaratri Parba” or the nine-night festival of Bada Dashain, the greatest festival of the Hindus of Nepal, begins today.
The first day of Bada Dashain festival is called “Ghatasthapana” that falls on Aswin Shukla Pratipada, the first day of the bright half of the lunar calendar in the month of Asoj.
On the day of Ghatasthapana, all Nepali Hindus worshipped Diyo (an oil-fed lamp), Kalas (auspicious jar) and Lord Ganesh in accordance with Vedic rituals and sowed maize and barley seeds in a jar filled with soil and cow dung for germination of the auspicious Jamara (barley shoots).
The auspicious hour for observing Ghatasthapana was 10:23 am today, according to Nepal Calendar Determination Committee.
Prayers were also offered to Durga Bhavani, the goddess of power today.
Four people trapped in Manaslu avalanche rescued
Four people trapped in an avalanche at base camp III of Manaslu mountain in North Gorkha have been rescued.
Two persons who were caught in the avalanche were rescued by helicopter and sent to Kathmandu for treatment while another two persons were rescued from the camp III and brought to camp II, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police of District Police Office, Gorkha, Leelaraj Lamichhane.
The identity of the four persons who were rescued is yet to be known.
Two of the injured who were rescued were brought to Samagaon and then taken to the capital Kathmandu by a helicopter.
DSP Lamichhane said that two more who were rescued later could not be brought to Samagaon due to bad weather.
The police said that the search for other missing persons is going on.
1,051 persons contract dengue in past 24 hours
As many as 1,051 people have contracted dengue in the past 24 hours as of Monday.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, dengue has been confirmed in 25,543 people till today. Till Sunday, the number of people contracting dengue stood at 24,492.
32 people have died due to dengue infection so far.
Minister Shrestha leaves for Canada to attend 41st ICAO Assembly
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, left Kathmandu on Monday to take part in the 41st triennial International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)’s Assembly.
The Minister-led legation to the ICAO Assembly also includes the Director General at the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).
The ICAO Session kicking off at Madrigal on Tuesday will bring together representatives from 193 nations across the world.
Interpol issues diffusion notice against Nepali cricketer Lamichhane
The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) has issued a diffusion notice against Nepali cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane.
According to Nepal Police Headquarters, Interpol issued a diffusion notice against Lamichhane at the request of the Nepal Police.
After diffusion notice is issued, as many as 135 countries affiliated with Interpol will begin search operation to trace Lamichhane.
A minor girl has filed a police complaint against the cricketer on the charge of rape.
Monsoon-induced incidents obstruct 28 roads across country
Six roads have been completely disrupted and 22 others partially across the country due to monsoon-induced disasters.
One-way traffic has been allowed in the 22 partially obstructed roads.
Loaders and excavators have been deployed to remove debris, and discussions with local people were underway to create diversions.
DoTM opens route permit for public vehicles
The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has opened route permit for public vehicles from today (Monday).
The route permits have been opened from today targeting the travelers wishing to go home for Dashain and Tihar, festival.
This arrangement has been made for convenience of passengers to reach their respective destinations until the October 9.
Renowned American ski mountaineer Nelson missing from Mount Manaslu
According to Jeevan Ghimire, Managing Director of Shangrila Nepal Treks Pvt Ltd in Kathmandu, Jim Morrison, who went skiing along with Nelson, has already returned to the base camp safely. However, the whereabouts of Nelson as of Monday evening is yet to be known.
“Hilaree is missing from Bhimthanka, which lies towards Manang,” said Ghimire. He added all other mountaineers and Sherpas going to Manaslu for autumn climb were safe.
