1,051 persons contract dengue in past 24 hours; 32 fatalities so far



KATHMANDU: As many as 1,051 people have contracted dengue in the past 24 hours as of Monday.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, dengue has been confirmed in 25,543 people till today. Till Sunday, the number of people contracting dengue stood at 24,492.

32 people have died due to dengue infection so far. According to the ministry, Bagmati Province has the highest number of dengue cases. The province has 19,910 dengue cases.

Similarly, Lumbini Province has 2,887 cases, Sudurpaschim 804, Province 1 775, Gandaki 556, Madhesh 380 and Karnali 231 dengue cases.

Dengue, which is spread by Aedes mosquitoes, was first seen in Nepal in 2004.

The government is preparing to declare dengue as an epidemic since dengue infection has spread in 76 districts across the country so far.

The Ministry of Health has urged to exercise vigilance as the number of dengue-infected people is climbing day by day.
