Nepal likely to be a victim of geopolitical conflict: UML Chair Oli

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has expressed his concerns over Nepal’s risk of becoming a victim of geopolitical conflict.

Presenting his analysis of the national and international political developments, Chairman Oli remarked, in his report presented to the fourth Central Committee meeting in Chyasal, Lalitpur on Friday, that the risk of the country becoming a victim of geopolitical conflict has increased of late.

He blamed the ‘wrong policy’ of the five party coalition government led by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba for the turmoil the country is likely to face.

UML chairman Oli pointed out that new developments in the geopolitical environment has posed new challenges to national independence, self-respect and national interest.

He said that after the government formed by the mandate was displaced by the Supreme Court verdict, the country has fallen into the abyss of crisis.

“The coalition government which was formed by displacing the government formed by the people’s mandate, has been trying to push the country towards a deep crisis by attacking the basic interests of the nation and the people in this period,” Oli said, “the internal preparations for the State Partnership Program (SPP) agreement, the Citizenship Bill etc have revealed lack of diplomatic handling and the inefficiency of the government.”

He remarked that almost all aspects of the country’s economy have reached a negative and risky situation and people’s life has become a hell due to price hike, corruption, and mismanagement.

Oli mentioned that due to the indiscriminate expansion of the number of ministries and ministers in the provinces and the apparent absurdity, the public’s distaste for the provincial structure, federal system and political achievements as a whole has started to grow.
