BHAKTAPUR: A fund of £5000 (equivalent to NRS. 7,65,000) has been raised in the memory of Dr. Bibek B. Pradhan through the charity “Health Exchange Nepal (UK)” to support Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital.

The hospital’s waiting hall has been named after Dr. Pradhan.

Dr. Pradhan has been a key player in mobilizing various resources to start advanced cancer treatment in the Hospital in Bhaktapur.

He obtained the specialist degree of MRCOG in 1969 from the United Kingdom (UK) after graduating from Calcutta.

As the first Nepali male gynecologist, he returned to Nepal to serve in the country.

However, he returned to the UK where he worked as a GP in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, until his retirement in 1993.

After his retirement, he established a radiotherapy unit at the Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital, Nepal, with the support of Rotary International.

He also initiated a successful cancer screening and care program through a special project, which enabled many destitute patients in Nepal to receive free cancer treatment.

Likewise, he has been a key player in raising, and mobilizing funds to start a new memorial building at Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital.

As an active Rotarian, he dedicated his retirement to improving cancer care in Nepal before he died on 28th April 2021 following a prolonged illness.
