HoR meeting: Parliamentarians focus on making independent economy



KATHMANDU: Taking part in Thursday’s meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) on the government annual policies and programs, parliamentarians have stressed on the need to advance independent economy.

They also drew the attention of the executive to come up with programs that are potential for increasing economic growth. The lawmakers have demanded the government lay emphasis on food production so as to reduce dependency on agriculture.

On the occasion, lawmaker Hridayesh Tripathee who also registered amendment proposal on the policies and programs, accused the government of trying to go back by presenting an idea to endorse citizenship bill on consensus. He laid emphasis on advancing the bill as per the provisions enshrined in the Constitution.

Another lawmaker Sher Bahadur Tamang said there was no alternative to expose the government’s intention to privatize the public structures. He underscored the need to bring the marijuana bill into public discourse and enact it to strengthen the national economy.

Also taking part in the deliberations, lawmaker Bhim Bahadur Rawal underlined the urgency of developing industries based on domestic raw materials. Rawal had registered 19-point amendment notice on the government policies and programs.

Another lawmaker Khagaraj Adhikari registered 139-point amendment notice and demanded removal of Indian Army from Limpiyadhura, Kalapani and Lipulek – the Nepali territory encroached upon by India.

Parliamentary member Durga Poudel demanded annulment of provincial structure as they are merely increasing productive expenses. She also called for revisiting he Nepal-India agreement.

Poudel also demanded delivering justice to the survivors of violence.

Also taking part in the deliberations today, parliamentarian Prem Suwal called for the government to withdraw the decision of petro price hike.
