KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has ordered the government not to build an international airport at Nijgadh in Bara.

A full bench of Justices Harikrishna Karki, Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, Prakash Man Singh Raut and Manoj Kumar Sharma on Thursday gave the order not to build an airport in Nijgadh.

Hearing the writ petition filed by senior advocate Prakash Mani Sharma and others, the Supreme Court directed the government to find a suitable alternative in accordance with the law and legal norms if an international airport is to be built, said Supreme Court Spokesperson Bimal Poudel.

Senior advocate Prakash Mani Sharma and others had filed separate writ petitions alleging that the construction of the airport in Nijgadh would cause huge environmental damage.
