Supreme Court hearing Governor Adhikari’s writ today

KATHMANDU: Supreme Court (SC) is hearing the writ petition filed by Nepal Rastra Bank’s Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari today.

A joint bench of Justices Sapana Malla and Tanka Bahadur Mokta is scheduled to hear the writ petition.

The government suspended Adhikari on April 8.

The SC on April 20 had issued a short-term interim order paving the way for Adhikari to resume his duties. He attended his duties on April 9.

Today’s bench will take a decision on whether to continue with the interim order or not.

In case the interim order is discontinued, Adhikari will remain suspended again.

Earlier, the government had formed a probe panel led by former Justice Purushottam Bhandari following Adhikari’s suspension. The SC had stayed the probe panel not to further carry out its work.

Adhikari had filed a writ petition at the SC arguing that the government suspended him against the existing rules.
