56 including 8 women file nominations for mayor of Kathmandu Metropolis



KATHMANDU: A total of 56 candidates including eight women have registered their nominations for the post of mayor in Kathmandu Metropolitan City in the local level elections to be held on May 13.

Of them, 21 candidates are from various political parties while 35 are independent candidates.

Similarly, as many as 31 candidates have registered candidacies for the post of deputy mayor in the metropolitan city.

Of them, 12 are from political parties while 19 are independent candidates. Twelve women are among those deputy mayoral candidates.

According to Raj Kumar Khatiwada, the chief returning officer of the Kathmandu district, a total of 1,262 candidates have filed nominations in all the municipalities in the district.

There are 10 municipalities and one metropolitan city in the Kathmandu district.

Of them, 125 have registered their nominations for the post of mayor and 57 for deputy mayor while 334 have filed nominations for the post of ward chairpersons.

Similarly, 746 candidates including 191 women and 129 Dalit women have registered their nominations for the post of members.
