Deputy Mayor’s Cup: Dehimadu champion, Thaligada suffers 79-run defeat

BAITADI: Dehimadu has won the title of the 5th edition of the Deputy Mayor’s Cup T20 Women’s Cricket Tournament held in Dasharathchanda Municipality of Baitadi.

Dehimadu stunned the previous winner Thaligada by 79 runs to clinch the title. Along with this, Dehimadu has become the champion for the third time in the Deputy Mayor’s Cup. They had earlier won the second and third editions.

Along with the title, Dehimadu won Rs 45,000 and runner-up Thaligada got Rs 30,000 trophy, medal and certificate, said Ramesh Bhatt, coordinator of the municipal cricket committee.

In addition to this, Dehimadu has also avenged the loss in the final of the last edition. Thaligada had beaten Dehimadu by 9 wickets in the final last year.

In the final on Friday, Thaligada was bowled out for 60 in 16.4 overs while trying to achieve the 140-run target set by Dehimadu at the Ninglasheni Stadium. Lalita Chand scored 21 runs and Puja Karki scored 10 runs. Dehimadu’s Nirmala Karki took 3 wickets and Babita Bohara took 2 wickets.

Earlier, batting first, Dehimadu scored 139 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Pinky Bohara scored 59 not out. Puja Karki and Sanju Pella of Thaligada bagged 2/2 wickets each for Thaligada.

Dehimadu’s Pinki Bohara was declared the Woman of the Final.

Babita Bohara of Dehimadu, who took 12 wickets and scored 70 runs in the tournament, became the Woman of the Series. Similarly, Manisha Bohara of Dehimadu, who scored 124 runs, was adjudged the best batswoman and Janbi Mauni of Tripura, who took 12 wickets, was adjudged the best bowler.
