NC-UML meeting ends inconclusively

KATHMANDU: The meeting between the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML has ended inconclusively even Saturday.

Second-tier leaders of the NC and the UML held a meeting at UML Chair KP Oli’s residence in Balkot this afternoon.

The meeting ended without a concrete deal after both the parties stuck to their guns.

At the meeting, NC leaders requested UML to support the passage of the United States grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact. However, UML leaders told the NC that they could not discuss any issue until the 14 lawmakers, who were dismissed by their party, were removed from the House of Representatives (HoR).

After the meeting, UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel said, “We conveyed NC leaders that it should make way for the opposition to enter parliament. The day we enter the House, we will be present with our clear stance on every agenda in parliament.”

The coalition parties have also been asked to make an official stance on MCC first, he added.

Pokharel also clarified that the opposition was not compelled to speak on MCC as the ruling coalition itself was divided over the issue.
