Rasuwa Customs Office earns Rs 4.33 bln in revenue from imports as exports remain nil

KATHMANDU: Exports have been nil as over Rs 4.33 billion has been collected in revenue from imports at Rasuwa Customs Office, Timure.

This is the figure of revenue received from customs valuation of Chinese goods imported from Rasuwagadhi checkpoint in the first six months of the current fiscal year.

According to Chief Customs Officer Ram Prasad Mainali, Rs 4.33 billion has been collected in the last six months. Since the beginning of the Covid-19, the Chinese side has been delivering goods to the Miteri Bridge in Rasuwagadhi through nine containers daily.

Exports to China are zero as import revenue has been collected from traders, businessmen and private companies.

Compared to the two previous fiscal years, the revenue collection has increased by two and a half times this year. During the same period last year, only Rs 1.72 billion was collected.

According to the customs office, all kinds of small and large vehicles, equipment of under-construction hydropowers, apples, walnut, ready-made garments, footwear, children’s toys, clothes and electrical goods are being imported from the customs point.

This year’s annual revenue collection target is Rs. 6.81 billion. The increase in revenue is attributed to the import of vehicles. It is said that over 1,000 vehicles, including zoom crane, tipper, ambulance, microbus, minibus, jeep and cars have been imported since last year.
