PM Deuba congratulates Rishi Sunak

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has congratulated Rishi Sunak on being chosen as the Leader of the Conservative Party and the next Prime Minister of the UK.

PM Deuba has wished Sunak all the best for this important responsibility.

“I look forward to working with him to advance the longstanding Nepal-UK relationship,” PM Deuba tweeted on Tuesday morning.

Sunak will become the UK’s first British Asian prime minister and the youngest for more than 200 years, according to BBC.

Nepal exports power to India even during peak hour of Laxmi Puja

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) exported electricity to India even during the evening peak hour of Laxmi Puja on Monday.

NEA said 380 megawatts of excess electricity was sold in the Indian market during the peak hour on Monday evening.

The highest electricity demand in Nepal was at 6:10 PM during Laxmi Puja during which 1,305 MW of electricity was consumed.

Security beefed up in Kathmandu Valley during festivals

Security has been beefed up in Kathmandu Valley, the federal capital, in view of the Deepawali, Nepal Sambat and Chhath festivals, said the District Administration Office, Kathmandu.

Chief District Officer (CDO) of Kathmandu District, Ghanshyam Upadhyay said the security has been strengthened to prevent any untoward incidents during the festival period.

According to him, all the three district administration offices within the Valley have fully implemented the security strategy focusing on the festivals.

SC to remain partially open during Tihar holidays

The Supreme Court (SC) is to remain open from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm during the Tihar and Chhath festival holidays for hearing the petitions related to habeas corpus.

According to court’s spokesperson Bimal Poudel, though the Court is observing the festival holidays till October 30, it will partially remain open except Saturday and the day of Bhaitika on coming Thursday for hearing of the petition of habeas corpus.

New variant of coronavirus ‘XBB’ detected in Nepal

A new variant of coronavirus has been detected in Nepal.

According to joint spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr Sameer Kumar Adhikari, the sub-variant of Omicron’XBB’ has been identified in Nepal.

The sub-variant of omicron ‘XBB’ was identified in course of genomic sequencing of coronavirus-infected people from different places of the country from August 21 to October 10.

The sample test was conducted at National Public Health Laboratory.

Karnali Highway resumes fully

The Karnali Highway has fully come into operation after 20 days of disruption due to floods and landslide at several places along the highway triggered by incessant rains from October 5 to 10.

This is the trunk road for the people of Karnali connecting to the other places in the country.

The people have felt a sense of relief with the resumption of the highway.

Election Commission determines four types of ballot papers for HoR, PA elections

The Election Commission has determined four different types of ballot papers for the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) and Province Assembly (PA) election.

The election will be held throughout the country on November 20 in a single phase. The voters will be given four separate ballot papers which are relatively smaller in size.

The ballot paper towards the first-past-the-post (FPTP) election system will have the election symbols only of those who have fielded their candidacy.

Nepali Ambassador Bhandari calls on PM of Bangladesh

Ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari called on Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina at the latter’s residence at Ganabhaban, Dhaka, earlier today.

On the occasion, discussions were held on consolidating Nepal-Bangladesh relations with a focus on better linkages in the areas of trade, transit, energy, education, and tourism, among others.

Nepal sees 16 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

Nepal recorded a total of 16 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Tuesday.

Of the confirmed cases, 14 were detected through the RT-PCR method and two through Antigen method.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 888 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
