Government decides to observe Visit Nepal Decade
The government has decided to observe the ‘Visit Nepal Decade’ for stimulating the tourism sector.
Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Suresh Adhikari said that a decision has been made to celebrate the Visit Nepal Decade to activate and revive the tourism sector which has been dented by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Addressing the Nepal Hospitality Conclave-2022 hosted by Hotel Association Nepal (HAN), he said a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Friday had decided to celebrate the decade from 2023 to 2033 as the Visit Nepal Decade.
SC issues show cause order to President’s Office
Hearing on the writ petitions filed against President Bidya Devi Bhandari, the bench of Justice Hari Phuyal has issued a show cause order against the office of the President.
Earlier, five writs were filed against the President for her not validating the Citizenship Bill passed by both Houses.
The Supreme Court has ordered to show cause as to why the order should not be given as per the demand of the writ petitioner. The House of Representatives and the National Assembly passed the Citizenship Bill and sent it to President Bhandari for verification.
Even when sent for the second time, President Bhandari refused to certify.
SC issues show cause order to defendants in writ related to tenure of Speaker and Deputy Speaker
The Supreme Court has issued a show cause notice on the writ related to the tenure of Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
A single bench of Justice Hari Phuyal issued a show cause order to defendants in connection with the tenure of Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota and Deputy Speaker Pushpa Bhusal on Sunday.
Four advocates, including Jaggannath Dulal, registered a writ claiming that the tenure of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker ended with the submission of the closed list of proportional representative candidates by parties. However, Sapkota and Bhusal have yet to vacate their offices.
Defendants in the writ Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Law and Federal Parliament Secretariat have been asked to furnish a written response on the matter.
Top leaders, including PM Deuba, at Election Commission to sign poll code of conduct
Top leaders of various political parties, including Nepali Congress and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, appeared at the Election Commission on Sunday to attend an interaction and sign the commitment letter for the implementation of the Election Code of Conduct.
The Election Commission had called top leaders of political parties to discuss the election code of conduct today.
Accordingly, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand, Chairman of United Socialist Party Madhav Kumar Nepal, CPN-UML Vice Chairman Subas Nembang along with chiefs and office bearers of 12 political parties reached the Election Commission and interacted with the election body

FMTCL assures adequate supply during Dashain in remote areas
The Food Management and Trading Company Limited (FMTCL) has said it is effortful to ensure an adequate supply of food grains in remote areas including Karnali during the festivals as Dashain and Tihar.
The biggest festivals of Nepalis – Dashain, Tihar and Chhath- are only a week away. They, together, last for about a month.
Executive Director Mohan Prakash Chand said food grains would be supplied as per the quota determined on the basis of population density and need while remaining within the budget limit set by the government.
As he said there might have been incidences of crowding at some FMTCL depots as people are on a buying spree taking advantage of the discount offered on food items on the occasion of the festivals.
“The Company requests all the consumers to extend cooperation by buying only the required food grains and daily essentials and not for hoarding purposes,” Chand said.

Demands of retired integrated Army will be addressed: Maoist Center Chair Dahal
Chairperson of the CPN Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said he was positive about demands put forth by retired integrated Army personnel.
The former Prime Minister in his address to the first national gathering of the retired integrated Army personnel in Chitwan on Sunday, said “Their major demand is that they should be associated with the party organization and need the opportunity to contest in election. I have told them that they can associate with the party organization and can contest in poll.”

NSCCI elects new Executive Committee under leadership of Himalayan Airlines Veep Shrestha
The 16th annual general assembly of the Nepal Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NSCCI) has elected a new Executive Committee under the leadership of tourism businessman Bijay Shrestha.
The general assembly held in Kathmandu on Sunday unanimously elected a 26-member Executive Committee under Shrestha, who is also the vice president of Himalaya Airlines.
Similarly, Rajesh Bir Tuladhar, Ramraj Acharya and Mrigendra Mehar Shrestha have been elected vice presidents while Dr. Harish Joshi was elected general secretary, Deepak Maharjan as treasurer and Bidhita Shrestha and Prakash Oli as secretaries of NSCCI.
Maoist Center leaders in Dhankuta resign en masse
CPN Maoist Center leaders of Dhankuta have resigned en masse expressing dissatisfaction over the seat allocation of the ruling coalition.
All Maoist leaders in Dhankuta resigned en masse, making a decision to field politburo member Hemraj Bhandari as an independent candidate.
It has been learnt that the Maoist will not get a seat of the House of Representatives in Dhankuta.

US Dollar at a record high against Nepalese currency
The value of the US Dollar (USD) has made a new contemporary record in Nepal with one USD trading for Nepali Rs 129.89 on Sunday.
The Central Bank, Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), fixed the buying rate for one USD at Rs 129.29 and the selling rate at Rs 129.89 today.
According to the foreign exchange rate for Sunday, the buying rate of one dollar has been fixed at Rs 129.29.
The selling rate of the dollar has been fixed at Rs 129.89 on Sunday, which means that Nepali nationals will have to spend Rs 129 and 89 paisa to buy one dollar.
This is the first time that the US dollar has become expensive in the Nepali market.
Rasuwagadhi transit point sees increased imports of good
The volume of Chinese goods imported from the Rasuwagadhi transit point on the Nepal-China border here has increased this year compared to the previous one.
Only 14 containers carrying various imported goods used to pass through this transit point in a day following the decline in COVID-19 pandemic.
These days as many as 21 such containers are transiting through this checkpoint on a daily basis, the Rasuwa Customs Office said.
Hundreds of containers crossed the border daily to the Chinese towns Kerung and Pangsing to fetch the imported goods.
Nowadays, the Chinese side has started transporting the goods up to Rasuwagadhi.
