SC issues show cause order to President’s Office

KATHMANDU: Hearing on the writ petitions filed against President Bidya Devi Bhandari, the bench of Justice Hari Phuyal has issued a show cause order against the office of the President.

Earlier, five writs were filed against the President for her not validating the Citizenship Bill passed by both Houses.

The Supreme Court has ordered to show cause as to why the order should not be given as per the demand of the writ petitioner. The House of Representatives and the National Assembly passed the Citizenship Bill and sent it to President Bhandari for verification.

Even when sent for the second time, President Bhandari refused to certify.

Lawyers including advocates Sunil Ranjan Singh, Sunil Kumar Yadav, Dev Sharma and Shonu Rauniyar filed a writ in the Supreme Court against it.

They demanded an order to validate the Citizenship Bill.
