EC decides to publish election symbols of parties contesting Nov 20 polls in Nepal Gazette
The Election Commission (EC) has decided to publish the election symbols of the parties participating in the Provincial Assembly and House of Representatives elections in Nepal Gazette.
The EC decided to publish the election symbols of parties along with the order of election symbols.
The EC, issuing a note on Thursday, informed that the election symbol of the CPN-UML would be number at the first place or at the top of the ballot paper of November 20 elections.
As many as 80 parties had applied for party registration for the elections.
UML Politburo fixes 11 agenda for Central Committee meet to take place on Friday
The Politburo meeting of CPN-UML has fixed 11 agendas for the Central Committee meeting set to begin Friday.
UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli presented a summary of his political report at the Politburo meeting held at the party office in Chyasal, Lalitpur, on Thursday (today).
Chair Oli’s political report is to be put forth for endorsement in the Central Committee meeting tomorrow.
President politically motivated on Citizenship Bill, say top leaders of ruling alliance
The top leaders of the ruling coalition have concluded that President Bidya Devi Bhandari was politically motivated with regard to Citizenship Bill.
President Bhandari intensified consultations with retired Army officials and legal eagles after the House of Representatives passed the Citizenship Bill, which she had returned with a message, without making any amendments to it.
She consulted with military officers and legal experts only on Wednesday.
The top leaders of the ruling coalition on Thursday discussed the President’s intensified consultations on Wednesday and talks doing rounds about her resignation.
Nepal sees 444 new coronavirus cases, three deaths in past 24 hours
Nepal recorded a total of 444 new cases of coronavirus and three deaths in the past 24 hours as of Thursday.
Of the confirmed cases, 211 were detected through the RT-PCR method and 233 through the Antigen method.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 4,954 swab samples were tested in the past 24 hours.
Of them, 1,996 samples were tested through RT-PCR and 2,958 through the Antigen method.
Minister Khand, Ambassador Pollitt discuss Nepal-UK ties
UK’s Ambassador to Nepal Nicola Kathryn Pollitt held a courtesy meeting with Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand on Thursday.
During the meeting that took place at the Ministry of Home Affairs, the two discussed about the matters relating to further consolidation of bilateral ties.
On the occasion, Minister Khand thanked the ambassador for successful completion of the Integrated Program for Strengthening Security Justice (2014-2021) supported by the UK government.
NEPSE loses 18.29 points to close at 2,039.55 points
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index has lost 18.29 points to settle the market at 2,039.55 points on Thursday (today). This is a loss of 0.89 percent in the index.
The index had gained 2.87 points on Wednesday.
The index that opened at 2,058.01 points made an intraday high of 2,068.55 followed by an intraday low of 2,035.69 before ultimately settling at 2,039.54 points today.
A total of 4,234,137 shares of 219 companies traded via 32,946 transactions, resulting in a turnover of Rs 1.71 billion in the secondary market.
IRC meeting called to discuss Indian Army’s Agneepath scheme postponed
A meeting of the International Relations Committee (IRC) of the House of Representatives called to discuss Indian Army’s Agneepath scheme to recruit Nepali youths has been postponed.
The IRC had summoned Foreign Minister Dr Narayan Khadka for discussion in the meeting, however, the minister abstained from the meeting.
Only seven members of the total 25-strong IRC appeared for the meeting, thereby making the quorum insufficient.
The quorum for the meeting was insufficient as members of the CPN-Unified Socialist were busy celebrating the party’s founding day and the members of the UML had Politburo meeting.
IRC Chairperson Pabitra Niraula Kharel said that the meeting had been postponed until further notice.
Earlier, the recruitment process of Nepali youths into the Indian Army had also been suspended.
The Nepal government conveyed to the Indian government that Nepali youth recruitment in the Indian Army had been suspended until it is made clear about the “Agneepath” scheme implemented by India to recruit soldiers.
Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka on Wednesday met and discussed the issue with the Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava.
