KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has decided to publish the election symbols of the parties participating in the Provincial Assembly and House of Representatives elections in Nepal Gazette.

The EC decided to publish the election symbols of parties along with the order of election symbols.

The EC, issuing a note on Thursday, informed that the election symbol of the CPN-UML would be number at the first place or at the top of the ballot paper of November 20 elections.

As many as 80 parties had applied for party registration for the elections.

As per EC, four parties, including the Maoist Center, have applied to contest the elections with the same election symbol. The ballot paper is likely to have election symbols of around 87 parties.

The EC had said that the ballot papers would contain only the elections symbols of the parties that have nominated candidates for the November 20 elections and the number of parties’ election symbols would also depend on the district/constituency.

According to the EC, the roll order of the election symbols are based on the number of votes received by political parties under the proportional election system in the 2017 elections.

For parties that did not participate in proportional representation last time, the order would be based on the order of their registration for the House of Representatives/Province Assembly Member Election-2022.
