Coalition leaders direct government to curtail petroleum taxes



KATHMANDU: A meeting of the leaders of the ruling coalition has decided to urge the government to reduce the current tax on petroleum products.

According to sources, a meeting of the coalition leaders held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Saturday morning decided to direct the government to reduce the tax on petroleum products so as to control the rising cost of goods and products.

CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Prachanda’s personal secretary Ramesh Malla informed that the government will implement the direction by cutting the taxes levied on petroleum products from today (Saturday).

If the decision is enforced, the price of diesel and petrol will be reduced by Rs 30 to 25 per liter.
