Former Chief Justice Shrestha re-elected as ICJ Commissioner



KATHMANDU: Former Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha has been re-elected as the Commissioner of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ).

After retiring from the post of Chief Justice, Shrestha was first elected as the Commissioner in December, 2016.

Former Chief Justice Shrestha has been re-elected as the commissioner for a five-year term to conclude in December, 2026. ICJ, an international organization headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, is home to eminent judges, constitution experts and jurists.

Established in 1952, ICJ works in the areas of independence of judges and lawyers, respect for economic, social and cultural rights, trade and human rights. The organization also works in the areas of women’s human rights, global security and the rule of law.

Former Chief Justice Shrestha was listed as one of the best judges in the world in ‘Towering Judges: A Comparative Study of Constitutional Judges’, published by Cambridge University Press.

Shrestha’s honesty, sincerity and scholastic vision has been widely appreciated.
