HoR meeting taking place today

To discuss MCC, other issues

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) is taking place at the Federal Parliament Building, New Baneshwor at 1 pm today.

A proposal on the agreement of grant reached between the Nepal government and the US aid agency, MCC will be discussed in today’s meeting.

The meeting of the HoR scheduled for 1 pm on Thursday was postponed abruptly.

Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota postponed the meeting at the request of the government.

Earlier on Thursday, discussions were held between Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Chairman of Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on MCC prior to the start of the House of Representatives meeting.

The Maoist Center has decided to stand against the MCC.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Deuba is making preparations to endorse the MCC even with the support from the main opposition CPN-UML.

On Thursday evening, UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli held two rounds of talks with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on the issue of ratifying the MCC from the Parliament.

The CPN-UML has been obstructing the regular sessions of the HoR alleging the Speaker for not taking action against 14 lawmakers of the Unified Socialist Party.
