Rapist sent to 18 years in prison



NAWALPARASI: The Nawalparasi District Court has sentenced a man to 18 years in prison for raping a minor.

Prakash Poudel, a resident of Bardaghat Municipality-12, was found guilty of raping a 10-year-old girl a year ago.

A bench of District Court Judge Ashok Kumar Basnet found Poudel guilty on the basis of necessary evidence and sentenced him to 18 years imprisonment today, said Information Officer at the district court Prem Prasad Poudel.

It is mentioned in the verdict that the defendant Poudel lured the girl on the pretext of buying new clothes while she was playing and raped her. The accused Poudel was arrested immediately after the villagers informed the police.

The court has also ordered to provide Rs one lakh compensation to the rape survivor. The court has ordered to pay compensation to her from the Relief Fund established under the Crime Victims Protection Act, 2075 BS as the defendant Poudel’s financial condition is weak and he cannot afford to pay compensation.
