Myanmar national held for obtaining Nepali Citizenship



KATHMANDU: A Myanmar citizen has been arrested after finding to have obtained Nepali citizenship by submitting false information.

According to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office,  a citizen who came from Myanmar  and has been living in Sarlahi is found to have obtained Nepali citizenship.

“39-year-old Mohammad Noor Alam, who obtained citizenship mentioning Tribhuvannagar-1, Sarlahi by submitting false information, has been arrested from Kalanki in Kathmandu and necessary action has been taken,” SP Krishna Prasad Koirala said.

The preliminary investigation has shown that Alam, a citizen of Myanmar who came to Nepal from Myanmar via Bangladesh in 2012 and was teaching at a Madrasa in Sarlahi, submitted false information and obtained a Nepali citizenship, he said.

Alam is found to have obtained a Nepali passport using the same citizenship.

Koirala said that Alam has been sent to the district police complex Kathmandu for further investigation and he (Alam) would face action on the document-related offense, and the misuse of government document by obtaining citizenship and passport by submitting false information.
