Maoist Center candidate Renu Dahal elected as Bharatpur mayor

Result yet to be officially announced



BHARATPUR: Renu Dahal of the CPN (Maoist Center) has been elected as the mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City of Chitwan.

Dahal has been elected for a second term.

According to the latest vote count results, with around 2,000 votes remaining to be counted, Renu has secured 12,140 more votes against her rival Bijay Subedi of CPN-UML. While Dahal got 51,112 votes, Subedi got 38, 972 votes.

She was elected with the final result yet to come.

The Office of the Returning Officer will formally announce the results after all the votes have been counted.

Independent candidate for the post of mayor Jagannath Poudel has received 14,727 votes.

Similarly, Chitrasen Adhikari of the Nepali Congress (NC) has also ensured victory in the election for the post of deputy mayor.

While Adhikari got 51,903 votes, his rival Himala Gurung of RPP got 30,326 votes.

There are 29 wards in the metropolis.
