Independent candidate Shah files nomination for Kathmandu mayor

KATHMANDU: Independent candidate Balen Shah has registered his candidacy for the post of Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

Shah reached the Office of the Electoral Officer in the City Hall in Exhibition Road, Kathmandu, and registered his candidature on Sunday.

After filing his nomination, Shah stressed that positive outcome would be produced when independents get to helm the local levels. He added that the local level should be politics-free and he had the support of the youth with him.

He expressed confidence that his victory was certain, reasoning his candidacy would attract the votes of the candidates of the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML.

Similarly, Bibeksheel Sajha Party’s mayoral candidate Samiksha Baskota also filed her candidacy for the post of mayor of Kathmandu metropolis.

While registering her candidature, Baskota said that her party was the alternative political force in Kathmandu. She added she would work in a planned manner to solve the problems within the metropolis.

Candidates of the major parties have prepared to register their candidacy for Kathmandu mayor only on Monday as the Election Commission has, this time, given two days for registering nominations.
