Candidacy registration for May 13 local election begins

KATHMANDU: As per the local level election schedule, the process of filing candidature begins today for the May 13 election.

Political parties will start registering their candidacies at the local level today.

The Election Commission (EC) has fixed today and tomorrow for filing the nomination.

Nominations can be registered by going to the office of the Election Officer between 10 am and 5 pm on these two days, according to Election Commission Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel.

He said that a complaint would be lodged against the candidate on April 26, nomination papers would be verified on April 28 and 29 and a decision would be taken after investigating the complaint.

The EC has, meanwhile, appealed to the offices of the Chief Electoral Officer and the Electoral Officer and all concerned to complete the nomination registration for the local level election on Sunday and Monday in a systematic and peaceful manner.

EC Spokesperson Poudel has also urged all parties concerned to ensure there is no obstruction from any side in the process of registering candidacy noting it was the right of all the citizens qualified as per the law to file nomination for the posts of local level members.

The EC has asked parties and independents to file candidacy on any of the two days convenient for them.
